GRANTS

Columbus Museum of Art & Design (CMAD) provides grant funding to engage artists and designers to create new projects that provide high quality creative experiences in the Columbus, Indiana area.

OVERVIEW OF GRANT GUIDELINES

CMAD supports projects that enrich and engage the community through new public visual art and design experiences. Projects should follow health and safety recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and state and local government.

WE ARE INTERESTED IN PROJECTS THAT:

  • Present exceptional quality

  • Creatively respond to new ways of interaction and engagement by perhaps:

    • Creating a new experience, collaboration, or educational opportunity

    • Celebrating the unique legacy of Columbus

    • Offering an inventive perspective

    • Expanding access for the whole community

    • Piloting a new delivery method for art

    • Engaging students and schools in creative projects

  • Use our funds strategically, creating a deep impact.

  • Engage and uplift the Columbus community through the arts.

WE DO NOT FUND:

  • Maintenance (e.g., repainting public art)

  • Professional development or capacity-building

  • Equipment or supplies without creation 

  • Operating funds for organizations, businesses, or governmental entities

  • Multi-year projects/grants

We fund:

  • Visual artists and designers who produce projects to engage the Columbus community in visual art and design (2D, 3D, multimedia, or digital) experiences, with an emphasis on local and regional artists. Priority will be given to applicants with significant ties to the Columbus area.

  • Professional visual artists and designers who clearly demonstrate capacity to implement the project proposed.  Collaborative projects are encouraged. 

  • Short-term projects – generally no more than 12 months in duration.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

  • Email us at CMADgrants@gmail.com to propose a project.

  • Previous projects have been supported in the range of $500 to $5,000.

  • The grants committee will follow up on each proposal received.
